Thaumaterge Video Game

After selecting our teams to work on this project, we were thrust into the world of game design and creation to its fullest extent. From creating concept artwork and story boards to complete releases with video trailers, introductions, and corporate branding for our mock studio. The goal was to create a game solely and mainly from scratch within 16 weeks with a team of 4 people.

COMPLICATIONS

No one in our group had much coding experience in the platform that we had chosen, myself least of all. While I did have coding knowledge in other platforms, I opted to start on environmental artwork for our Wizard RPG game. Learning a new software while meeting deadlines is always a worst case scenario, and as it turns out this course was also the capstone class in the degree, for which I was not aware having only chosen the class being interested in the course subject. There were also several life events occurring with the team at the time and we had to coordinate remotely since this was at the height of the covid pandemic.


SOLUTIONS

By splitting up our work loads so as to work off of everyone strengths, we were able to coordinate a complete plan, and implementation of a video game, from writing up the overall game design documents and idealizations to completing a 4 level world that a player could explore complete with magical potions, several types of enemies, a magical companion, player interface, and even a mini map radar and save functions. Overall we were able to put in the long hours over discord conferences in order to bring all members of the team on to the same page to create a truly one of a kind product.
