Syracuse Smash Logo Design
A previous client approached me to create a logo for his minor league football team, hoping to represent the sport in the Syracuse area. The goal was to create a logo that encompassed both the ferocity of his players and also the namesake of “Smash” incorporated in not only word art, but a visual representation as a mascot within the logo.
COMPLICATIONS
While the client wanted to represent the Syracuse area, he had to be careful not to step on any collegiate toes, as there have been several football programs that had been met with cease and desist orders from the lawyers of the schools for simple issues relating to things like common font selection and PMS color coding. The logo had to both avoid and include college influences as the program sought to accept college students in their ranks.
SOLUTIONS
By keeping a close eye on the font selection during the process, we were able to steer clear of any collegiate influence with the logo design. The literal “Smash” was represented with a spartan wielding a hammer to the letters of the logo, giving an air of strength and follow through that worked well together and did not hinder the progress of nearby teams or programs by being completely original in its design for the context.
